Support workers will get pay raise in Hillsborough County
Workers representing by the Hillsborough School Employees Federation will receive raises of 4 to 9 percent, according to a contract agreement the School Board approved on Tuesday.
Higher raises will go to bus drivers and cafeteria workers, two jobs for which workers are in short supply. Drivers have been working until now for $10.56 an hour. All raises are retroactive to July 1.
"This is very significant," said board member Cindy Stuart.
Member Doretha Edgecomb said the district's sound financial management was, in part, responsible. "We were in a good position to do this, and that doesn't happen in every school district," she said.
Union members voted almost unanimously to approve the new agreement.
Separately, the teachers are in the process of casting their votes on a new contract. That process will require at least one more week.
