Take Two: Does the Hillsborough board need its own auditor
More from Tuesday's Hillsborough County School Board meeting:
Member April Griffin reintroduced the idea to hire an auditor who would report to the board. This is an idea she floated in early 2013, when she was chair, only to see the motion defeated 4-3. Stacy White said that, based on an explanation given by school district attorney Tom Gonzalez, he did not believe the board had the right to hire someone to do performance audits. And, as board member Candy Olson pointed out, the district already gets plenty of financial audits.
Since that time, Jim Porter has been hired as the school board's own attorney, and Griffin wants a second opinion.
She has asked Porter Tuesday to look into the matter, clarifying that she's talking about a financial auditor. He agreed. After a brief discussion about vacation schedules, the board agreed 4-3 to discuss and vote on the idea June 24.
