Teachers feel fallout from AMIKids Pasco contract cancellation
The Pasco County school district's decision to cut ties with AMIKids is having one unintended consequence: Teachers at the alternative school say they aren't getting all the pay they're due.
According to the teachers, AMIKids withheld a portion of their biweekly paychecks so they could have income over the summer. But with the cancellation of the district contract, AMI offered the teachers a severance package worth about half the amount they're owed, they said.
Some have called the school district to complain. But district leaders said their hands are tied, because the teachers worked for the nonprofit, not the school system.
