USF students plan mock pageant to protest Trumpâs comments on women
Stop by the University of South Florida’s student center on Thursday afternoon and you’ll see a beauty pageant with an odd bunch of contestants: Miss Piggy, Miss Housekeeping and Miss Flat-Chested.
The mock pageant, put on by a handful of students, is meant to lambast Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s descriptions of women.
The students are part of the campus chapter of For Our Future, a super PAC that rallies behind progressive causes.
“There is no shortage of misogynistic comments from Trump, as each time the Republican candidate for president opens his mouth he has something demeaning to say about women,” reads a statement put out by For Our Future. “He unleashed sexist attacks on Hillary Clinton and doubled down on past insults towards other women, including Rosie O’Donnell and former Miss Universe, Alicia Machado.”
Students plan to wear sashes featuring “some of the ‘pet’ names that Donald Trump has used for the women in his life,” including Miss Piece of Ass, Miss Eating Machine and Miss Bimbo.
The message to Trump, the group says, is that “a woman’s place is in the White House.” They said they hope Sen. Marco Rubio hears their message, too, calling him “shamefully silent” on Trump’s comments.
Look for the pageant in front of Marshall Student Center at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
