USF's College of Engineering dean takes job in Virginia
The dean of the University of South Florida's College of Engineering, home to more than 4,000 students last fall, is on the way out.
John Wiencek has accepted an offer as senior vice provost for administration and strategic initiatives at Virginia Commonwealth University, according to USF officials. He leaves USF in August.
On Wiencek's watch, the college's online and traditional graduate programs earned sought-after U.S. News & World Report rankings. Enrollment in the college's doctoral programs more than doubled since 2010, and research spending, grants and donations exploded. In 2011, the college received $25.9 million in software for electrical engineering students.
Associate dean for academic affairs Rafael Perez will serve as interim director of the college while school officials search nationally for a replacement.
