USF's specialty care center to open in the Villages

The University of South Florida's medical presence in The Villages is about to expand again.

USF Health's Specialty Care Center will open in the sprawling retirement community outside of Ocala Friday. The 25,000-square-foot center will have 32 exam rooms, four procedure rooms and capabilities to provide lab work, ultrasounds and stress tests, among other procedures, on site. USF Health doctors will offer specialties including obstetrics and gynecology, endocrinology and cardiothoracic, plastic, orthopedic and general surgeries. It's designed to be a complement to the Villages Health's primary care centers throughout the community.

USF Health partnered with The Villages to create an updated yet, in some ways, old-fashioned system of medical care. Read the Times story from August about the project.

The ribbon cutting Friday starts at 9:30 a.m. at the specialty care center, 1400 U.S. Hwy. 441 North, Suite 810, in the Villages, with tours to follow.
