Wanted: A principal for Pierce Middle School

Pierce Middle School in Town 'N Country is again about to change principals.

Raymond Padgett, who has led the school since mid-2013, is out  for medical reasons, said Tanya Arja, spokeswoman for the Hillsborough County School District.

Padgett brought a measure of stability to a school that went through a rough patch in 2012 and 2013. A special needs student there ran away during the same week Jennifer Caballero drowned at Rodgers Middle School. In the aftermath, teacher Ingrid Peavy was fired and shortly after the child ran away, principal Henry Lefler was transferred to Memorial Middle School. Anna Voida replaced Lefler, but she was on the job only eight months before Padgett replaced her.

The school, with more than 900 students, is 92 percent minority and 95 percent low-income, according to its latest School Improvement Plan.
