Woodford to remain as Hillsborough's HR chief
Stephanie Woodford will remain on board as chief of human resources for the Hillsborough County School District, Superintendent Jeff Eakins announced Thursday.
Woodford, a district employee since 2002, was one of 13 top administrators told last month they needed to re-apply if they wanted to keep their jobs.
While the other searches are ongoing, Eakins decided the timing was not right to consider a leadership change in human resources. The department is moving to a different location, the district is hiring dozens of teachers in new mentoring positions, and negotiations are about to begin with the labor unions.
"The department needs stability right now," said spokeswoman Tanya Arja. "And he has confidence in Stephanie Woodford."
In launching the series of searches, Eakins said he respected those who now hold the jobs, but wanted to make sure they were best suited for their positions. All nine area superintendents - eight with geographic territories, and one who oversees high-needs "Elevate" schools - are also affected by the exercise. Eakins wants to raise their profiles and give them more autonomy in their communities.
