Yet another Pinellas graduation reschedules for bad weather
Update 8:45 p.m.: Seminole High School will hold its graduation on Friday at 5p.m. at First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks.
Just two hours out from the 7:30 p.m. graduation ceremony, the Gradebook has learned that Seminole High School canceled its commencement.
The ceremony was supposed to be outdoors, on Bright House Field in Clearwater, but continuing rain and wind has shuttered the plans. Details on the rescheduled graduation will be emailed "as soon as it is available," according to Pinellas County Schools HQ.
Several other Pinellas high schools that planned on outdoor commencement ceremonies have had to reschedule as Andrea gusts through Tampa Bay. Tarpon Springs High School's Tuesday night graduation on the school's football field made it just in time.
St. Petersburg moved its football-field graduation, also initially scheduled for today, to tomorrow morning. If the bad weather persists, St. Pete will move the ceremony into the school, splitting students alphabetically because it does not have large enough facilities for one big ceremony.
Countryside did exactly that this morning, moving graduation into the gym and dividing students into two ceremonies.
Why do these schools even bother planning outdoor ceremonies when the first week of June rarely brings anything but rain? Tradition is a powerful thing, and only so many schools can fit around the Rays schedule at the Trop.
