Basketball for a cause at Robinson
The Robinson boys basketball program is hosting a “Breaking the Silence” night, an event to raise awareness for domestic violence.
The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence says every nine seconds, a woman in the United States is beaten or assaulted.
During Friday night's game against Spoto, from the introduction of the players until the ninth point scored by Robinson, the gym will be completely silent, except for regular game noise. When the ninth point is scored, the crowd will break the silence.
“Because it’s rooted in victim self-blame, (domestic violence) is rarely talked about,” event organizer and Robinson student Katie Cassedy said. “The whole thing behind it is to give a woman a voice to speak up.”
The game starts at 8 p.m. Admission is $4.
