Berkeley Prep boys maintain district swim dominance



Berkeley Prep’s boys won their seventh straight team title at the Class A, District 7 meet, outscoring rival Tampa Prep 659-534.

Nathan Stovern led the Buccaneers with wins in the 100 free (48.04) and the 200 free (1:43.87). He also swam legs on the winning 200 free (1:28.33) and 400 free relays (3:18.99).

The Terrapins' Van Cates won the 200 IM (1:57.94) and the 200 medley relay (1:41.17).

In the girls meet, Tampa Prep and Berkeley Prep tied for the team title with 558 points. It is the first time the Buc girls have won a district title since 2007.

The Bucs’ Nicole Stambo set a school record in diving by winning the event with 522.90 points. Berkeley Prep’s other champions were Lindsey Marian in the 500 free (5:29.50) and Anne Myers in the 100 back (1:02.73).

The Terrapins’ Savannah Savitt, who committed to Nebraska on Thursday, won the 200 IM (1:56.82) and the 100 breast (1:08.11). Teammate Maureen Moore took first in the 50 free (24.86) and the 100 free (53.40). Tampa Prep also swept all three relays.

Tampa Catholic’s Christin Rockway was the other girls swimmer to win multiple titles, taking first in the 200 IM (2:07.81) and 100 fly (58.60).
