A few college notes from notable North Suncoast alumni...

* Former Bishop McLaughlin volleyball star Jessica Johnson was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s rookie of the week. The freshman outside hitter averaged 12.3 kills and 11.0 digs to help Norfolk State earn three wins last week.

* A day after younger brother Christian Trinidad’s season ended with a concussion, former Mitchell RB Ricky Trinidad rushed for a career-high 219 yards for Nebraska-Kearney. He tied the game with a 1-yard TD run in the fourth quarter to start a run of 21 unanswered points in a 34-20 win over Southwest Baptist.

* Pasco alum Josh Johnson had an interception and a pass breakup in Purdue’s 29-22 overtime loss to Ohio State. He moved to second place in the Big Ten with three picks and also ranks second in the conference with 11 passes defended.

Hit me up with any other notable performances, either in the comments below or by email (mbaker@tampabay.com).
