Dwyer could forfeit 2011 playoff appearance
I hope the FHSAA has plenty of Wite-Out.
The FHSAA has ruled that Dwyer is the latest football power to forfeit its 2011 season, the Palm Beach Post reported this weekend.
Here’s what happened, according to the paper’s Matt Porter:
The school suspected that a transfer, lineman Onterio Rouse, had a transcript that appeared to be cut and pasted. Those summer courses on the questionable transcript from another school helped him become academically eligible.
Porter reports that the player paid $300 to take part in a tutoring program from a former Forest Hill assistant coach, Michael Dudeck, who was arrested in July on suspicion of falsifying student transcripts in his tutoring program.
Dwyer can appeal the ruling.
By my count, that’s the fourth team to vacate its playoff appearance from last fall. Tallahassee Godby, Miami Central and Armwood are the others.
The forfeits are drastically altering the FHSAA records. Check out the Class 6A bracket here. [ Vacate ] beat [ Vacate ] for the state championship.
What are your thoughts? Is the FHSAA cracking down too hard? Are schools or families just getting caught breaking the rules?
