Ex-ZHS coach still recruiting...and getting paid for it

These days, there are neither allegations nor whispers about Jerrell Cogmon recruiting. The former Leto and Zephyrhills coach is doing it all out in the open.

Nearly three years after being fired at Zephyrhills -- less than 24 hours after his first preseason practice -- in the wake of a county probe into illegal recruiting by his staff, Cogmon is embarking on his third season as an assistant at Division I-AA Tennessee State.

The Tigers' linebackers coach, Cogmon recruits the bay area, where his school recently has made offers to Leto TB Andre Simpson and Robinson two-way standout Bruce Hector.

It's Cogmon's second college stop since his dismissal at ZHS; he spent the 2009 season as an assistant at a two-year program in North Dakota. If he hopes to continue climbing the collegiate ladder, he may want to tweak his bio on Tennessee State's website. It says he was hired at Leto in 2003, and "led a struggling program to its first win in six seasons."

Leto actually made the playoffs in 1998 and '99.
