The gameday expenses of Friday night lights

If you care how the high school football sausage is made, check out this cool story from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on the gameday revenues and expenses for Texas powerhouse Southlake Carroll.

The bottom line is this: Excluding uniforms and coaching salaries – which are much higher in Texas than they are in Florida – the Dragons spent $16,000 to host a game last year. And they brought in $90,000. Cha-ching.

My favorite expense the Star-Telegram found was for coach buses, to bring the band and team from the high school 4.5 miles away to the stadium. It cost more than $1,000.

Southlake Carroll also brings in $215,000 in advertising revenue at its stadium. That helps fund the football coach’s salary of almost $100,000.
