HOMETEAM PICK-EM: Ketchum adds another win, and Haggard moves to top of list

29

September

Ketchum if you can.

For the second time this season, picker Tom Ketchum fiishes atop the Pick-Em weekly standings, joined by Real Raider Fan and David C, as all three folks better a group of 93 contestants with a sterling 18-2 record.

Ketchum was the only one in the top 3 to take Northeast (Ryan Davis gets a Christmas card this year!), but Real Raider Fan was the only one who took Dunedin to beat Gibbs. But Real Raider Fan also went against the odds and took Carrollwood Day and River Ridge, costing him an outright victory.

And hey, David C and RRF, you need to email me (cotey@tampabay.com) your real names, because you are qualified for the Grand Daddy of them all, the HomeTeam Playoff Extravaganza. I can keep you anonymous, if you want, but you can't compete in the World Championships of High School Football Picking -- where the big money or if I'm lucky at all, some cool prizes -- will be won. But I need to know who you are.

As for some of our regulars, our Hernando writer Derek LaRiviere went 17-3, as did I, because I am mostly awesome. I was unable to gain ground in the overall standings, however, on my arch-nemesis Neutral Observer, who along with former champion Mary Krause and overall leader Don Haggard also went 17-3.

Last week's champ, GATA-SON!, limped home with a 15-5 mark.

And what about Matt Baker, our North Suncoast Ace? A 13-7 mark was stunning, although local writers Andy Warrener and recruitnik Kyle Bennett weren't much better at 14-6.

As for the season standings (remember, top 5 make the season-ender, so consistency will be rewarded), last week Haggard and @RonCanMultiTask we're tied for first, but after a dreadful 14-6 week the multitasking tumbles into a third-place tie with me, Bill Steele and the Neutral Observer.

Haggard is alone in first, trailed by Ketchum.

Loook out for Justin Miller, who is lurking in seventh despite not having any really good weeks, and Cards64 and Big Blue, who if they hadn't missed the first week might be making a run for the lead.

***AND REMEMBER, DON'T GIVE UP IF YOU MISSED A WEEK (coughPUSKAScough). SOMETIME IN OCTOBER, EVERY GAME ON THE HIGH SCHOOL SCHEDULE WILL BE IN  THE PICK-EM. IT COULD BE A GAME CHANGER FOR THOSE TRYING TO MAKE UP GROUND.***
