A must-read, feel-good cross country story from Memphis

September

It’s easy to focus on the bad news in high school sports – the scandals and the injuries and questionable sportsmanship.

So here’s a feel-good story on a sunny Friday, from the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

At a recent high school cross country race, Seth Goldstein saw a runner in front of him fall. The boy’s lips were blue, and blood was coming from his mouth.

Goldstein, who has worked as a lifeguard, stopped. He told someone to call 911. He took charge of the situation. Then, when the ambulance came, he finished the race.

You should read the whole, fantastic story by columnist Geoff Calkins here.

The reactions, as you might expect, have been overwhelmingly positive, from Ellen DeGeneres to Olympians.
