Football: Bradenton St. Stephen's 21, Zephyrhills Christian 10

ZEPHYRHILLS — Alex Virgilio rushed for three first-half touchdowns to lead Bradenton St. Stephen's past Zephyrhills Christian on Thursday night. A late hit out of bounds by a St. Stephen's defender on the final play of the game resulted in an altercation between the players, coaching staffs and even a few spectators at midfield. Words were exchanged, but both teams eventually departed without further incident.

KEY DRIVE: Trailing 21-0, ZCA (4-3) put together its lone scoring drive early in the fourth quarter. Led by quarterback Matthew Iovine, the host Warriors started from their own 15-yard line and drove past midfield before the senior found Issac Johnson for a 35-yard touchdown.

STARS OF THE GAME: Johnson, who transferred to ZCA from Pasco in the spring, had eight catches for 82 yards. Teammate John Emmanuel added 68 yards, with most of those stemming from a 47-yard reception in the fourth quarter. ... Sophomore middle linebacker Matthew Severson forced a fumble on St. Stephen's (6-1) quarterback Fred Billy and scooped it up.

STAT OF THE GAME: The Warriors were penalized nine times for 85 yards.

FINAL WORD: "One of the bigger issues is that we're young and we don't know how to control our emotions. If we're winning, we let up because we think we've got it won. If we're losing, we tend to give up. So to see them finish, that I'm proud of." — ZCA coach Mike Smith.
