HomeTeam Hot Shots: Nominations for March 19-25
Each week, our HomeTeam staffers nominate male and female Hot Shot athletes from each of the counties we cover. Then we turn the voting over to readers. These nominations span Saturday, March 19 through Friday, March 25. Read up on all of our nominees then vote until noon Monday.
Ashley Blessin, softball, Plant City: The freshman ace threw a two-hit shutout and recorded 10 strikeouts in the Raiders’ 1-0 win over Newsome, which was ranked No. 3 in the nation and was the only undefeated team left in the Tampa Bay area.
Emily Kolwicz, softball, Springstead: The freshman had an impact in two games against rival Nature Coast. She scored the winning run in a 1-0 victory in the Leopard Slam championship game and had a three-run walkoff homer to win the rematch 10-9.
Brianna Lindner, softball, Land O’Lakes: The sophomore was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, all of which came on a pair of homers in a 4-1 win over Libertyville at a tournament in Kissimmee. She has hit safely in 11 straight games.
Ani Wells, track, Armwood: The freshman won three individual events and had a hand in the winning 4x100 relay at the Hillsborough County National Division meet. Wells took first in the 100 meters (11.95), 200 (24.94) and long jump (19 feet, 2 inches).
Jeremy Adams, baseball, Osceola: The junior was 4-for-4 with five RBIs in a 9-4 win over IMG Academy in the IMG Spring Tournament. The big hit was a bases-loaded triple. Adams also got two hits in a 2-1, 17-inning win over Cullman, Ala.
Brian Brown, baseball, Palm Harbor University: Prior to Saturday’s final, Brown was 6-for-14 in three games of the Dunedin Spring Tournament. He had three hits in Thursday’s 8-1 semifinal win over Clearwater Central Catholic. Brown also pitched six scoreless innings against Inspiration Academy.
Kyle Blakeney, baseball, Mitchell: The senior singled with two outs in the first inning, tying the score after two wild pitches, then scored the winning run in the fourth inning to help the Mustangs beat South Sumter 2-1 in the championship game of the Farm Bureau Classic.
Noah Perkins, track, Seffner Christian: The senior set a personal record in the 1,600 meters at IMG’s rain-soaked pre-state meet. Perkins finished more than four seconds ahead of the field in 4:20.42.
Isaiah Rodgers, track, Blake: The UMass commit (football) won two events at the Hillsborough County American Division meet. The senior, who has been sidelined with a hip injury, ran the 100 meters in 10.88 and the 400 in 49.73.
Mason Stacy, baseball, Nature Coast: The senior had two hits and two RBIs in the Sharks’ 3-2, eight-inning comeback win over previously unbeaten Land O’Lakes in the Farm Bureau Classic.
Note: There are no Pinellas female nominees this week because most teams had no games scheduled during spring break.
