HomeTeam Hot Shots: Nominations for Nov. 5-11
Each week, our HomeTeam staffers nominate male and female Hot Shot athletes from each of the counties we cover. Then we turn the voting over to readers. These nominations span Saturday, Nov. 5 through Friday, Nov. 11. Read up on all of our nominees then vote until noon Monday.
Reilley Bain, soccer, Weeki Wachee: The freshman had a team-leading three goals in a 5-2 win over Hernando. Bain has six goals and two assists for the Hornets entering Friday’s game vs. Fivay.
Breaunna Dailey, soccer, Largo: The junior had a combined five goals in wins over Dunedin and Bradenton Southeast this week.
Bailey Hertenstein, cross country, Riverview: The junior won her second straight state title, finishing in 17 minutes, 40.36 seconds, nearly 40 seconds ahead of her closest competitor at the Class 4A meet.
Jordyn Kadlub, soccer, Pasco: The sophomore, who is also a standout in softball, scored at least two goals in each of the Pirates’ first three games, all wins.
Olivia Rovin, cross country, Shorecrest: The senior, who battled back from cancer two years ago, capped off her high school career by finishing fourth at the Class A meet in 19 minutes, 27.83 seconds.
Morgan Tankersley, swimming, Plant: The junior had one of the best performances ever at a state meet, breaking long-standing records in winning the 200 free (1:44.31) and 500 free (4:37.60) at the 4A meet. She also set another record with a 100-yard lead leg in the preliminaries of the 400 free relay (48.69), an event she helped her teammates win in the finals.
Tupac Blanch, football, East Lake: The senior took the second-half kickoff and scored on a 97-yard touchdown that proved to be the difference in a 14-7 win over Durant in the Class 7A region quarterfinals.
Robert Cecil, swimming, Berkeley Prep: The senior won the 50 free (20.73) and the 100 free (45.07), setting school records in both events at the Class A state meet.He also anchored the second-place 400 free relay (3:07.83) and helped the Buccaneers finish as the team runnerup.
Robert Finke, swimming, Countryside: The junior won the first two individual state titles of his career, taking first in the 200 IM (1:49.34) and the 500 free (4:22.92) at the 4A meet. He also helped the Cougars finish second in the 200 medley relay (1:35.02) and third in the 400 free relay (3:09.24).
Trevor Hawks, football, River Ridge: The senior threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-28 Class 5A region quarterfinal win over Crystal River. It is the most single-game passing yards for Hawks this season.
Aaron Quiambao, football, Jefferson: With five seconds left in regulation, Quiambao booted a 26-yard field goal to lift the Dragons in a wild 34-33 win in the Class 5A region quarterfinals.
Manden Smith, swimming, Gulf: The defending state champion in the 50 free won his top event at the Class 2A region meet in 21.21 seconds, as well as the 100 free in 48.15.
