HomeTeam Hot Shots: Nominations for Oct. 1-7



Each week, our HomeTeam staffers nominate male and female Hot Shot athletes from each of the counties we cover. Then we turn the voting over to readers. These nominations span Saturday, Oct. 1 through Friday, Oct. 7. Read up on all of our nominees then vote until noon Monday.

Female nominees

Estefania Guizar-Diaz, golf, Mitchell: Guizar-Diaz shot even-par 72 at the Groves Golf Club in Land O’Lakes to win the Sunshine Athletic Conference west championship by seven shots.

Alyssa Hendrix, cross country, Riverview: In her debut season, Hendrix took first at the Hillsborough County freshman/sophomore championship meet, finishing in 19 minutes, 11.9 seconds.

Kacie Huber, golf, Pasco: The junior was the SAC east champion with a score of 76 at the Groves Golf Club. She won the title by one shot.

Lindsey Leadbetter, swimming, Northside Christian: The junior won the 50 free (24.87) and was second in the 100 free (52.61) at the Tampa Bay Classic.

Pristine Siswanto, swimming, Tampa Prep: The senior took first in the 100 breast (1:08.64) and was on the winning 200 medley (1:50.53) and 200 free relay (1:41.81) teams at the Tampa Bay Classic.

Parker Valby, cross country, East Lake: The freshman was third in the girls invitational at the meet with a time of 20 minutes, 11 seconds.

Male nominees

Devin Black, football, Armwood: The junior quarterback had perhaps his best game of the season, throwing for 123 yards, rushing for 90 and scoring twice on the ground in a 38-14 win over previously undefeated Tampa Bay Tech.

Nick Gabrelcik, golf, Mitchell: The freshman won individual honors at the Sunshine Athletic Conference tournament, beating Sunlake’s Jordan Sarhaddi in a playoff. The Mustangs also won the team title.

Cormac Gilmore, cross country, Clearwater: The junior was seventh in the boys invitational race at the meet, finishing in 17 minutes, 10.7 seconds.

Davis Harrison, golf, Clearwater Central Catholic: Harrison fired 4-under 68 to win the individual championship at the Maverick Invitational at the Jacaranda Country Club in Plantation. CCC won the team championship.

Jordan Sarhaddi, golf, Sunlake: The sophomore finished in a tie with Mitchell’s Nick Gabrelcik (both shot 72), then lost in a playoff when Gabrelcik birdied the first hole.

Colin Wray, football, Steinbrenner: The quarterback engineered the game-winning drive, capped by his 19-yard touchdown pass to Brett Bitter, in a 23-20 win over Newsome to keep the Warriors’ playoff hopes alive.
