HomeTeam Hot Shots: Nominations for Sept. 23-29
Each week, our HomeTeam staffers nominate male and female Hot Shot athletes from each of the counties we cover. Then we turn the voting over to readers. These nominations span Saturday, Sept. 23-Friday, Sept. 29. Read up on all of our nominees then vote until noon Monday.
Celismar Guzman, swimming, Strawberry Crest: The senior, the defending Class 4A state runnerup in the backstroke, won the event at the FSPA meet in 57.45 seconds. She also took third in the 100 fly in 56.20.
Noa Heron, swimming, Seminole: The senior distance specialist stood out at the Pinellas County Athletic Conference meet, winning the the 200 free (1:52.81) and the 500 free (4:37.01).
Shayna Heymann, volleyball, Land O’Lakes: Despite playing on an injured ankle, the junior setter recorded 33 assists in a straight-game win over Springstead on Wednesday night. She also had two service aces.
Abigail Leisure, swimming, Freedom: The sophomore took first in the 200 IM (2:14.31) and the 100 breast (1:08.97), and swam a leg on the winning 400 free relay (3:48.61) at the Western Conference’s National Division meet.
Brooke Sereda, volleyball, Weeki Wachee: The junior outside hitter had 12 kills, 10 aces and 16 digs in a 3-1 win over district rival Nature Coast on Thursday. She also had 17 kills and 19 digs in a win over Hernando on Wednesday.
Parker Valby, cross country, East Lake: The sophomore took individual honors in the girls race at the Mitchell Invitational, finishing in 20:23.60, more than 20 seconds ahead of the runnerup.
Tim Dallaire, football, Anclote: The senior helped pull off the upset of the week Friday night. He completed 10-of-20 for 168 yards and two touchdowns, and added two back-breaking running scores in the fourth quarter of a 27-10 win over Wesley Chapel.
Trevor Foley, cross country, Citrus Park Christian: The senior won the elite race at the North Port Invitational in 15 minutes, 21.50 seconds, a time that ranks as the fastest in the state regardless of classification.
Joey Licht, swimming, Countryside: A versatile swimmer, Licht won the 200 IM (1:53.85) and 100 back (51.24), and was on the winning 200 medley relay (1:38.00) and 400 free relay (3:15.06) at the PCAC meet.
Carson Moran, golf, Plant: The junior shot 3-under 68 and won a one-hole playoff over Newsome’s Genki Sadato to win the individual championship at the Green Devil Invitational at Vinoy Golf and Country Club on Thursday. Plant won the team championship as well.
Javan Smith, football, Zephyrhills Christian: The junior caught touchdown passes of 28 and 50 yards to help lift Zephyrhills Christian to a 27-7 home victory over Holy Trinity. The Warriors are 6-0 on the season.
Cam Tisdale, football, Largo: The senior cornerback returned a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown in Thursday’s 42-7 win over Boca Ciega. He was also a big part of the defense that allowed only one Boca Ciega touchdown.
