HomeTeam Hot Shots: Nominations through Jan. 8



Each week, our HomeTeam staffers nominate male and female Hot Shot athletes from each of the counties we cover. Then we turn the voting over to readers. These nominations span the winter break through Friday, Jan. 8. Read up on all of our nominees then vote until noon Monday.

Female nominees

Brylee Bartram, basketball, Seffner Christian: In three victories, the freshman scored 79 points, including 29 against Bishop McLaughlin. The shooting guard, who leads the Crusaders in 3-point percentage, tallied 20 from long range this week.

Kiara Broner, basketball, Pasco: The sophomore had a double double (13 points, 10 assists) and chipped in eight rebounds and eight steals in a 56-26 win over Wesley Chapel. A day later in a 56-43 win over Anclote, the point guard scored 18, with seven rebounds and seven assists.

Don’Niya Brooks, basketball, Brooks DeBartolo: The senior scored a game-high 19 points in a 67-58 win over Calvary Christian, the top team in our HomeTeam 25. She also scored 14 in the Phoenix’s 72-48 win over Academy of the Holy Names.

Emily Cady, soccer, East Lake: Cady scored four goals against Tarpon Springs to become East Lake’s all-time leading goal scorer (63). The senior, who has 23 goals this season, scored eight this week, including four against Largo.

Nicole Carey, basketball, Wiregrass Ranch: The junior, who averages 5.5 points per game, scored a team-high 16 points in a district win against Plant. Carey stepped up when team-leader Trakyra Kidd was benched in the second half because of foul trouble.

Alivia Gonzalez, soccer, Palm Harbor University: The freshman had three goals in a 6-1 win over St. Petersburg in the Pinellas County Athletic Conference championship game, giving the Hurricanes momentum as they head into district play as a No. 1 seed.  

Male nominees

Stevie Darst, basketball, Jesuit: The guard scored a team-high 16 points and made all four of his free throws in a 63-51 win over rival Tampa Catholic that snapped the Crusaders’ 16-game win streak.

Will Dawson, basketball, Ridgewood: The sophomore guard scored a team-high 18 points and was 7-of-8 on free throws in a 67-64 overtime victory over Class 5A, District 8 rival Zephyrhills. Dawson is averaging 8.1 points per game.

Taddeus Dixon, basketball, Land O’Lakes: The senior had a game-high 14 points and was 7-of-10 on free throws in a 54-50 win over Mitchell that kept the Gators undefeated in Class 6A, District 8 play.

Kevin Knox, basketball, Tampa Catholic: The five-star recruit averaged 38 points and 13 rebounds in wins over Wharton, Berkeley Prep and Brooks DeBartolo. His best game was against Brooks DeBartolo (39 points, 17 rebounds, six blocked shots).

Kyle Storie, soccer, Keswick Christian: The senior recently scored four goals in a win over Admiral Farragut and now has 31 in 15 games. 

Eddie Williams, basketball, Calvary Christian: The junior scored a team-high 24 points to help the Warriors beat Shorecrest 75-72. It is the first time Calvary Christian has knocked off its district nemesis in a regular-season game.
