HomeTeam Hot Shots: Nomintions for Oct. 24-30



Each week, our HomeTeam staffers nominate male and female Hot Shot athletes from each of the counties we cover. Then we turn the voting over to readers. These nominations span Saturday, Oct. 24 through Friday, Oct. 30. Read up on all of our nominees then vote until noon Monday.

Female nominees

Kathryn Attar, volleyball, Wharton: The Colorado commit had 17 kills and five aces in Wharton’s 3-1 region quarterfinal victory against Lakeland. Attar has 337 kills this season, the fourth-best total in Hillsborough County.

Julia Blankenbaker, swimming, Wiregrass Ranch: The junior diver scored 346.40 points, 40 more than the rest of the field, to win the event at the Class 4A, District 5 swim meet at Bobby Hicks Pool in Tampa.

Hannah Brookover, cross country, Calvary Christian: The senior won the Class A, Region 3 meet in 18 minutes, 43.63 seconds. She had a 10-second lead by the time she crossed the finish line. 

Kelsey Riquelme, volleyball, Sunlake: The senior, who has 253 kills and 108 aces on the season, had 10 kills, six aces and five blocks in Sunlake’s 3-0 region quarterfinal victory against Brandon. The win set up a fourth matchups with Mitchell in the region semifinal.

Savannah Sawyers, swimming, Osceola: The senior took first in the 50 free (24.69) and the 100 breast (1:07.02) to help the Warriors win the team title at the Class 3A, District 8 meet. 

Erin Schulte, swimming, Plant City: Schulte was one of two girls to win multiple individual events in the Class 4A-5 meet. The sophomore was first in the 200 IM (2:13.96) and 100 breast (1:10.55).

Male nominees

Greyson Porter, golf, Shorecrest: Porter finished second at the Class A state tournament in Howey-in-the-Hills after shooting 73-69—142. He was one shot behind Andrew Kozan of West Palm Beach King’s Academy. Porter’s final round included four straight birdies on holes 14-17. 

Austyn Causey, football, Admiral Farragut: The junior played a big role in helping the Blue Jackets win the Class 2A-6 championship over Northside Christian. He threw for 330 yards and five touchdowns in AFA’s 47-32 win. He also had some big runs late in the game to help the Blue Jackets run out the clock.  

Malik Davis, football, Jesuit: The junior rushed for a career-high 255 yards and five touchdowns in Jesuit’s 62-0 victory against Spoto. Davis, who has rushed for 1,299 yards and 20 touchdowns on the season, averaged 31.9 yards per carry against the Spartans.

Chris Schwarz, football, River Ridge: The senior, who was recently selected for the inaugural Pasco County all-star football game, rushed for 271 yards and scored four touchdowns in a 42-21 win over Wesley Chapel. 

Brian Snead, football, Armwood: The sophomore running back rushed for 189 yards and three touchdowns in Armwood’s closer-than-expected 23-7 victory against Hillsborough. Snead has 797 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the season.

Jackie Tucker, football, Zephyrhills: The versatile senior playmaker scored on a pass, a reception and a punt return in a 41-14 victory over Anclote. He also had 204 total yards and another 53-yard punt return down to the 1-yard line.
