Nature Coast hires Kissimmee Liberty's Cory Johns as football coach
Cory Johns has been named the new football coach at Nature Coast. Johns, 31, takes over for Justin Worden, who resigned after three seasons to become the head coach at Astronaut High.
Johns previously coached at Liberty High in Kissimmee. In four years he had a 13-27 record.
“This is one of those jobs that I felt I had to look into," Johns said. “It’s a great opportunity and I can see myself being there for a long time. I would’ve hated myself if I didn’t try to get it."
Johns is a former quarterback who played high school football at Immokalee and in college at Jacksonville University and Webber International. He said he will teach physical education at Nature Coast and should be at the school by mid-February.
“I’m looking forward to getting things going and meeting the team and the people in the community," Johns said. “I know they’ve had a lot of success there lately and I hope to keep that going and perhaps do even better."
Worden led the Sharks to back-to-back undefeated regular seasons in 2015-16.
