Osceola's girls, East Lake's boys finish on top at Class 3A, District 8 meet



Osceola’s girls won their sixth straight district title at the Class 3A, District 8 meet, outscoring rival Seminole 440-321.

Savannah Sawyers led the Warriors with victories in the 50 free (24.69) and 100 breast (1:07.02) and anchored the winning 400 free relay team (3:41.18). Osceola’s other champion was Amber Brickey in diving with 426.65 points.

Clearwater’s Helena Heuberger won the 100 free (53.78) and 100 back (58.23). Teammate Grace Molinero took first in  the 100 fly (59.01). Both also were on the winning 200 medley relay (1:50.35) and 200 free relay (1:40.94).

Seminole’s Noa Herron won the 200 free (1:55.21). Northeast’s Amanda Burrows took first in the 200 IM (2:09.22). East Lake’s Annaklara Doel was a champion in the 500 free (4:58.21).

After years of battling with powerhouse programs Palm Harbor University and Countryside in Class 4A, the Eagles’ boys benefitted from the drop to 3A and won the district title with 498 points – 127 ahead of Osceola.

East Lake’s Nicholas Dodge won the 50 free (22.20) and the 100 free (49.50). Teammate Mitchell Irwin took first in the 100 breast (1:00.08). Both also were on the winning 200 medley relay (1:41.48) and 400 free relay (3:21.23). The Eagles’ other champion was Aidan Burns in diving with 328.70 points.

Seminole’s Brandon Christian won the 200 free (1:43.20) and the 500 free (4:39.46). He also anchored the winning 200 free relay (1:32.66). Teammate Skylar Hamilton took first the 100 fly (55.40).

Osceola’s Ricardo Martinez was the other boys swimmer who won multiple individual titles with first-place finishes in the 200 IM (1:58.90) and 100 back (55.01).
