Osceola's girls take second at Class 3A, Region 3 swim meet
Osceola’s girls continued their strong impressive run through the postseason by finishing as the runnerup at the Class 3A, Region 3 swim meet.
The Warriors, who won their sixth straight district title last week, scored 251 at regionals, 36 behind champion Estero.
Savannah Sawyers led Osceola by finishing first in the 100 breast (1:06.66) and second in the 50 free (24.59). She also swam legs on the 400 free relay team that was third in 3:40.36 and the 200 medley relay team that took fourth in 1:52.77.
The Warriors’ other champion was Amber Brickey in diving with 468.35 points.
Sunlake’s Kara Wilkins won the 100 back in 57.34 and was third in the 100 fly in 57.55.
Clearwater’s Helena Heuberger took second in the 100 back (58.79) and 100 free (54.10), as well as swim legs on the winning 200 free relay (1:42.28) and second-place 200 medley relay (1:50.96).
East Lake placed the highest among area boys teams, finishing fourth with 216.5 points. Mitchell Irwin, who announced his commitment to Florida Atlantic on Friday, took second in the 100 breast (1:00.26) and swam on the second-place 200 medley relay (1:39.63) to lead the Eagles.
There were two local boys champions: Osceola’s Ricardo Martinez in the 200 IM (1:55.16) and Sickles’ Ludovico Boscaino in the 500 free (4:30.83).
