Pasco track star Alfreda Steele picks Miami
Pasco sprinting sensation Alfreda Steele announced Thursday that she has committed to Miami.
Steele, a senior who is the defending Class 2A state champion in the long jump and 100, had numerous offers from schools. She whittled that list down to four schools she visited – Florida State, Miami, Nebraska and South Carolina. Her last official trip was to the Hurricanes’ Coral Gables campus on Oct. 16.
“I just felt like it was the best fit for me,” Steele said. “The coaches and the people are so supportive and welcoming. You can’t go wrong with the academics. I feel like I will be very successful at Miami.”
Steele said she will be running the 100 and 200 with the Hurricanes. She already has state titles in both events and will be aiming to run the 100 in under 11 seconds this season.
