Riverview runner Bailey Hertenstein adds Gatorade honor
Riverview's Bailey Hertenstein was named the state's Gatorade girls cross country runner of the year.
The sophomore is now a finalist for Gatorade's National Runner of the Year, which will be named later this month.
Hertenstein was the state's most dominant runner this past season. She took first at every meet she ran and capped off her season by winning her first state title at the Class 4A meet in a personal-record 17 minutes, 32.55 seconds to set the course record at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee. That time was the second-fastest in the state in all classifications and ranked among the top 85 in the nation.
Hertenstein also has a 3.95 GPA and volunteers as a student ambassador at her school.
