Shannon Brooks resigned Wednesday as head football coach at St. Petersburg Catholic. Brooks was with the Barons two seasons and had a 2-17 record. This past season, the Barons were 1-8 and had a roster of 28.

Brooks’ son, Bailey, was a junior strong safety and receiver for the Barons. Brooks said he has enrolled Bailey at Clearwater Central Catholic.

“It was really just a numbers game,’’ Shannon Brooks said. “I wasn’t sure we were going to have the numbers to have a spring season. I have to do what’s best for my son so we thought it would be best to transfer.’’

Brooks said he has not contacted CCC head coach Chris Harvey about joining his staff.

“If I end up being the dad in the stands with the video camera next season, I’m fine with that,’’ Brooks said.

St. Petersburg Catholic athletic director Nick Vandewalle did not immediately return a call for comment.
