Tampa Prep's girls, Berkeley Prep's boys win titles at Class 1A, Region 3 swim meet
As expected, Tampa Prep’s girls and Berkeley Prep’s boys each won team titles at the Class 1A, Region 3 swim meet.
The Terrapins scored 372 points to beat runnerup Fort Myers Bishop Verot by 29.
Tampa Prep won all three relays – the 200 medley (1:51.29), 200 free (1:39.19) and 400 free (3:36.44).
Maureen Moore was the only Terrapin to win multiple individual events, taking first in the 50 free (24.34) and 100 free (52.87). Teammate Savannah Savitt won the 100 breast (1:06.71) and was second in the 200 free (1:53.50).
Tampa Catholic’s Christin Rockway won the 200 IM (2:04.12) and 100 fly (57.45). Berkeley Prep’s Nicole Stambo was the diving champion with 500.5 points.
The Buccaneers won their seventh straight boys region title, scoring 397.5 points, 103.5 more than the Terrapins.
Berkeley Prep took first in the 400 free relay (3:13.56). The individual champions for the Buccaneers were Jesse Potts in diving (489.85 points) and Ryan Hatoum in the 10 breast (1:02.31).
Tampa Prep’s boys won the 200 medley relay (1:40.08) and 200 free relay (1:27.78). In individual events, the Terrapins were led by Van Cates, who won the 200 IM (1:56.35) and was second in the 100 back (52.66). Teammate Daniel Moore was first in the 100 free (47.41) and second in the 50 free (21.62).
Clearwater Central Catholic’s Mark Kantzler finished first in the 50 free (21.47) and second in the 100 free (47.43).
