Todd Donohoe out as Freedom's football coach
Todd Donohoe has been fired as head football coach at Freedom High School, the longtime Hillsborough County coach said Friday afternoon.
Donohoe began coaching the Patriots in 2012, and he went 15-25 in four seasons at the school. Last year Freedom went 3-7, finishing in the middle of the pack of a seven-team district.
Donohoe — who spent time as an assistant coach at Armwood and the head coach at Strawberry Crest before taking the job at Freedom — said he’s seen good turnout at offseason football workouts so far, and he’s disappointed to be leaving a program he believes is on the rise.
“I would never quit on the players,” Donohoe said in a text message. “The kids know they should be in the playoffs this season. Built it up then taken away.”
