'A League of Their Own' cast reunites for Geena Davis film fest
Why didn’t anyone tell us that we could have stalked the cast of A League of Their Own as they gathered in Bentonville, Ark., on Sunday?
Geena Davis, 60, (and her people) organized the outing — a reunion and a game of softball — to coincide with the second annual Bentonville Film Festival, which she founded to champion women and diverse voices in media.
The reunion, which apparently is an annual thing now(!), comes 24 years after the film stole our hearts in 1992. Six of the film’s cast members participated — Tracy Reiner (Betty “Betty Spaghetti” Horn), Anne Ramsay (Helen Haley), Davis (Dottie Hinson), Freddie Simpson (Ellen Sue Gotlander), Megan Cavanaugh (Marla Hooch) and Patti Pelton (Marbleann Wilkenson). Unfortunately, Lori Petty (Kit Keller), Rosie O’Donnell (Doris Murphy) and Madonna (“All the Way” Mae Mordabito) couldn’t make it. Nor could Tom Hanks (Jimmy Dugan).
“This event was so popular last year that we decided to do it again,” the Thelma & Louise star said on the festival’s website a few days before the event. “And I’m so thrilled to have six of my Rockford Peaches castmates attending the game this year.”
Also in attendance: Gina Casey, an original Peaches player, who threw out the first pitch.
We hope to be there next year. Warning: There will be crying.
