'American Idol' may fire all four judges for next season
Even though Fox has ditched Cops, they aren’t giving up on American Idol. Their four judges are another story, though, because word is the whole quartet is getting canned for season 13.
“All four are gone,” a source told TheWrap.com. “They feel they’ve lost their core audience and they want it back.” Not only are Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson on the block, but executive producer Nigel Lythgoe is rumored to be hitting the bricks, too. What happens to the rest of producers FremantleMedia is up in the air.
Another source added Fox has a “no more big checks for divas” policy in effect. That all started when Jennifer Lopez raked in an absurd $15 million for one season awhile back. And no, they won’t be calling J.Lo, either. Can you imagine the fistfights that would ensue after Mimi got $18 million?
Speaking of Carey, she's apparently dumped Jackson as her manager, although whether it's related to this or not is anyone's guess. “Randy was more of an in-between guy,” a source told The Hollywood Reporter. “She was looking for new management and he was like a temporary fix.”
With ratings down 22 percent so far this season, TheWrap says the entire show will be overhauled, with no more tribute nights and a new look and feel. They’ll keep the auditions, though, because laughing at people of marginal singing talent is a cornerstone of Idol’s success.
