Benicio Del Toro joins 'Guardians of the Galaxy' in unspecified (cough, Thanos) role
It should be no secret The Juice* collective is full of giant nerds who love comic book movies, among other things (like Bakelite telephones, crunchy Cheetos and silence), so imagine our joy at hearing Benicio Del Toro has joined Guardians of the Galaxy. Maybe now some people will actually start to look up what GOTG even is.
Deadline.com's Mike Fleming Jr. says the James Gunn project is "keeping his role under wraps, but he’s playing a character that is built to be part of future Marvel films, which means he has signed a deal with options that put him into multiple movies." Nerds in the know consider this to mean the role of the villainous Thanos, already hinted at in The Avengers, is a likely contender.
Del Toro is now part of a cast that includes Glenn Close, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker and John C. Reilly, all great names for different reasons. Shooting begins later this year, but he'll have time to make Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice somewhere along the line.
