Britney Spears' Las Vegas shows aren't selling very well right now

Sorry, Brit, you're not the draw you used to be.

Sorry, Brit, you're not the draw you used to be.

Because everything Britney Spears does from here on out is doomed to be labeled a failure by the gossip media, ZOMG YOU GUYS, her show in Las Vegas is a bombing! You know, the show that doesn't start until Dec. 27.

RadarOnline breathlessly reports that so far, Spears has only managed to sell out three shows for Britney: Piece of Me at  Planet Hollywood, which started selling tickets last Friday (prices range from $66.50 to $2,500 for a meet-and-greet package). Apparently not moving every ticket for 16 shows in three days is a problem.

“After spending hundreds of thousands on promo, they expected to instantly sell out all of the first 16 shows, but they didn’t come close," a source tells the site. “In fact, Britney only sold out three of the 16 shows put on sale and many are considering this a disaster.”

The defense here is supposed to be that Celine Dion and Shania Twain did manage to sell out blocks of shows very quickly, and the Planet Hollywood venue only holds 4,500 people or so.

To that we can only reply that the target market of Gen Xers through Millenials who would be at all interested in one of those concerts is too busy trying to get by on minimum wage after the Great Recession to worry about some doofy Vegas show by a former Mousketeer. Maybe when cost-of-living raises and 401(k) matches start over, they can worry about poor, threadbare Las Vegas casinos. Or hey, maybe no one wants to fork over a week's wages to see a mother of two pretend she's still 16. Either way.
