Celine Dion puts career on hold as husband fights cancer
A message posted on Celine Dion’s website Wednesday said the Canadian singer has “decided to postpone all of her show business activities indefinitely” so she can focus on her family and on the health issues she and husband Rene Angelil are facing.
Celine has canceled all of her shows until March. That includes her residency at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace — one of the hottest tickets in Vegas since she returned to the Strip three years ago — as well as her tour of Asia, which was planned for the fall.
Dion, 46, must “focus 100% of her attention on her husband Rene, their family, and associated health issues,” the statement said. Rene, 72, had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his throat in December and stepped aside as Celine’s manager in June.
“It’s been a very difficult and stressful time for the couple as they deal with the day-to-day challenges of fighting this disease while trying to juggle a very active show business schedule, and raise their three young children,” the statement said.
Dion is suffering from “an illness that has caused inflammation in her throat muscles,” according to the statement. She hasn’t performed at her show in Las Vegas since July 29.
