Chris Pine charged with DUI in New Zealand
Hollywood dreamboat and Juice* crush Chris Pine was charged with driving drunk in New Zealand, ABC News reports. What exactly did New Zealand expect? Captain Kirk always was a reckless navigator. (See: Opening scene of 2009’s Star Trek.)
The 33-year-old actor was arrested at a routine police checkpoint on March 1 after leaving the wrap party for Z for Zacharia. Casey Crawford, manager of Methven’s Blue Pub, told The Press that Pine was celebrating on Feb. 28 with his co-stars and Icelandic beauty queen girlfriend Iris Bjork Johannesdottir. Pine was drinking beer and didn’t seem to be wasted, Crawford told The Press.
“Chris was really good. They were a good crowd, the whole lot of them,” he said.
Transportation was provided, but for some reason Pine decided to get behind the wheel. The Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit star had been filming Zacharia in the land of Kiwis with co-stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street), who was at the party.
New Zealand police said a 33-year-old American was indeed arrested and charged with driving with a blood-alcohol content over the legal limit, which is .08 percent. Pine will appear in Ashburton District Court on Monday on drunk driving charges.
“It’s a reminder to all of us that none of us are above the law,” said Ashburton Mayor Angus McKay. “And also the standards that society has set themselves and we have to stay within the law or otherwise we fall foul of it.”
