Activist stands up for Washington

Tbdisaiah062007 Gay and lesbian activist Jasmyne Cannick tells the New York Post that Isaiah Washington’s firing from ABC is yet another in a long line of racist moves by the network, and has written a petition calling them out.

Cannick says Washington’s dismissal “further adds to a disturbing new trend at ABC wherein minority actors have been dismissed at an alarming rate over the past two years,” says the petition, using Star Jones (The View), Harold Perrineau (Lost) and Desperate Housewives actors Alfre Woodard, Mehcad Brooks and Page Kennedy as examples. “One must ask themselves, ‘What is going on?’ ”

And as far as Isaiah’s situation, she says he “has done more for the gay and lesbian community than T.R. Knight did in or out of the closet. He did what they asked him to do, and now they want to make sure he will never work again. At what point is enough enough?”

Enough is probably when Grey’s Anatomy needs a sweeps week boost, so Dr. Burke makes a reappearance.
