Alec Baldwin kicked off American flight, leaves Twitter, is probably lying
Things have gone from bad to worse for 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin, who already stirred up a firestorm after announcing on his Twitter account that he'd been kicked off an American Airlines flight for playing game son his iPad prior to takeoff. Well, that's what he says, at least, but the airline has countered it was worse than that. So bad, in fact, that Baldwin shut down his own Twitter account.
"Flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving," Baldwin tweeted Tuesday afternoon via @AlecBaldwin. The New York Post confirms that AA Flight 4 from Los Angeles to New York was delayed about an hour, but disputes Baldwin's publicist's explanation.
"Alec was asked to leave a flight for playing Words with Friends while parked at the gate. He loves WWF so much that he was willing to leave a plane for it, but he has already boarded another AA flight," a rep quickly said in a statement. Baldwin later that day told his 600,000 followers he was going to close his account, noting "Let's play a game called Mass Unfollowing. I want to crash this acct and start again. But, tonight at 10 PM, NY time, unfollow me."
American, meanwhile, said on its Facebook page Wednesday that Baldwin, whom they did not name, "declined to turn off his cell phone when asked to do so at the appropriate time. The passenger ultimately stood up (with the seat belt light still on for departure) and took his phone into the plane's lavatory. He slammed the lavatory door so hard, the cockpit crew heard it and became alarmed, even with the cockpit door closed and locked. They immediately contacted the cabin crew to check on the situation. The passenger was extremely rude to the crew, calling them inappropriate names and using offensive language. Given the facts above, the passenger was removed from the flight and denied boarding."
So what really happened? Leave it to the New York Post to find some guy named Steve Weiss who was sitting next to Alec and have him clear things up. Go figure: Baldwin lost his infamously short temper.
"Apparently he said he was playing a game, but he was actually talking on the phone," Weiss said. "She (the flight attendant) was very nice. The door was closed they just announced that they were pulling away from the gate. He got up threw his papers on the floor stormed into the bathroom slammed the door closed, beat on the wall and then came back. He said 'If you want to kick me off, kick me off.' He was just crazy, he just flipped out, the guy has problems."
A crew member who didn't want to give her name told the Post a similar story. Wow, he was so angry, you'd think his piggy little daughter Ireland was on the flight with him.
