Alec Baldwin is a possible replacement for Keith Olbermann

MSNBC is scrambling to find a replacement for Keith Olbermann, who was dropped from the network and leaves a hole in the lineup where his Countdown used to play. Let's see, where would NBC find a salt-and-pepper-haired liberal who loves to rant and rave. A-ha! Get us Alec Baldwin!

Sound crazy? A source tells PopEater's Rob Shuter that Baldwin's name is already in the mix: "He's already part of the NBC family, has a huge fan base and is very respected for his long term passions for politics." Plus, the source adds, network honchos lurrrrve the 52-year-old.

We all know that Alec wants to quit 30 Rock and go into politics, but is this how he's going to do it? A friend tells Shuter this may be the right gig -- "Don't count him out," is the quote -- but The Juice* doesn't see him doing a nightly roundtable beef with rolling news wallpaper. Now a weekly arguefest, that's a different story.
