Alec Baldwin wants you to take a bite out of Ben & Jerry's Schweddy Balls
While Nike may be making Back to the Future-style, self-lacing shoes, Ben & Jerry's is showing off its sense of humor once again by releasing a new flavor of ice cream based on a 13-year-old Saturday Night Live skit starring Alec Baldwin. Get ready to stick a spoon in a heaping bowl of Schweddy Balls. Way to be timely there, Ben & Jerry's. No, really, it is timely.
To coincide with the holidays and the Sept. 24 season premiere of SNL with Baldwin, the Vermont ice cream maker pays tribute to the 1998 routine also starring Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon, which I have conveniently posted above. The flavor is vanilla ice cream mixed with a touch of rum, plus fudge-covered rum balls and milk chocolate malt balls.
"For a long time, I thought that 'Here Lies Pete Schweddy'would end up on my tombstone," Baldwin told Entertainment Weekly in a statement, referring to the skit's bakery owning character. "Now, thanks to Ben & Jerry's, the goodness of the Schweddy family recipe won’t go with me to the great beyond."
This is obviously the opening salvo in Baldwin's Senate candidacy; hey, you've got to get them talking somehow. We all know Stephen Colbert and his Americone Dream ran for president. Unfortunately, Trey Anastasio's career in public service fell far short after Phish Food was released.
