Alec Baldwin will return to 30 Rock's seventh and final season
We've got good news and better news for 30 Rock fans: The good news is that Alec Baldwin will be returning as Jack Donaghy for one more season of the show. The better news is that it will be the final season. Why is that good news? Because after last season's precipitous decline, the sitcom has rebounded, and we'd like them to go out on a high note.
Baldwin told the National Press Club the news about season seven on Monday, a day before he hit Capitol Hill to ask Congress for an increase in arts funding, the Hollywood Reporter says. It was a nice deflection from reports of his tweet last Wednesday about the Today show camping out in front of his apartment, apparently to interview him about the arrest of a suspected stalker.
"No one from NBC contacted me until the Today Show arrived at my apt," he wrote. "I think I'm leaving NBC just in time." That got plenty of folks talking about his suspected departure, but since he signed a contract keeping him at 30 Rock for another season, that doesn't seem like such a problem now.
But what about after that? He told NPR's Morning Edition Tuesday he'd like to run for public office, but there's no office really available for him to claim. "I don't think there's anything to run for," he said. "There's nothing open. I don't live in Manhattan. I'm a resident of East Hampton, Long Island. I think if I ran for Suffolk County executive, I might have a shot."
