'American Idol' to get 'creative tweaking,' Fox says
While a couple dozen shows have been canceled by networks this season, one that is soldiering on is Fox's American Idol. It seems competition from The Voice and Fox's own The X Factor has been bad enough to warrant some changes to the formula, however.
Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly said Monday Idol will undergo "some creative tweaking" next season, the show's 11th. He said ratings had "dropped more than anticipated" after "space got crowded," Deadline.com reports.
Given the head rolling at The X Factor and new blood like Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, will Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez have anything to fear? No way, Fox honcho Peter Rice said: Lopez and Tyler are "terrific and have great chemistry and integrity." They just can't keep the ratings up, is all.
