Anne Hathaway to star as Catwoman in 'The Dark Knight Rises'; Tom Hardy will play Bane
The cat is out of the bag concerning Christopher Nolan's leads in his upcoming The Dark Knight Rises, the third flick in his treatment of the Batman franchise. For his apparent final bow as director of the series, the Hollywood Reporter notes he's picked Anne Hathaway to play Selina Kyle, whom Batfreaks all know as Catwoman (although she's not named as such in the WB press release). Halle Berry probably wasn't part of that discussion.
Also revealed is the character Tom Hardy will play: the villainous Bane, an ex-con who is hopelessly addicted to a strength-enhancing, experimental drug. So much for Victor Zsazz or Hugo Strange, which would have been more believable than what may end up being a hulking CGI mess.
Getting back to Hathaway, she beat out hopefuls like Jessica Biel and Keira Knightley for a turn in the Batman movie. Nolan's already proven he has an odd taste for female characters, since Katie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhaal were in the first two. Don't expect a fourth movie, Anne.
