Ariel Winter's mother, brother deny abuse allegations
After TMZ broke the story that 14-year-old Modern Family actress Ariel Winter was removed from her home last month after allegations of abuse, both her mother and her brother decided the best place to deny those allegations was in the supermarket tabloids. You wouldn't want to tell CNN or the New York Times something as salacious as a mom not emotionally torturing her daughter or anything.
"It's all untrue, it's all untrue," mother Chris Workman told People. "I have my doctor's letter that my daughter's never been abused. … I have stylists' letters that she's never been abused."Winter was put in her sister Shanelle Workman's custody until at least a Nov. 20 hearing about the allegations.
Brother Jimmy Workman told Us Weekly it was all unfounded, as well. "There is no truth to these allegations. The allegations made 20 years ago are not true and the ones today are not true," he said, referring to Shanelle being removed from the home for the same reason two decades prior. "This is a mother who does everything for her kids. Chris misses Ariel and wants her to come home."
It would be much easier to believe one side or the other if we hadn't seen so many Lifetime movies and believed either camp could potentially be lying. For the record, the court papers show Chris Workman is accused of committing "ongoing physical abuse (slapping, hitting, pushing) and emotional abuse (vile name-calling, personal insults about minor and minor's weight, attempts to 'sexualize' minor, deprivation of food, etc.) for an extended period of time." We'll have to wait until the hearing, because we doubt Ariel will be saying anything.
