Ashlee Simpson, Pete Wentz really got married

Ashleesimpsonpetewentz Rumors that Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz were going to get married in "secret" proved true, as the pair's (possibly shotgun) wedding went off Saturday without a hitch. Or, rather, with a hitchin'.

"We're delighted to confirm that Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson were married this evening in front of family and close friends," a spokesperson told People exclusively on Saturday. About 150 family and friends attended the ceremony at Ashlee's parents' house, making it a practical elopement by celebrity standards.

The 23-year-old singer wore an ivory lace Monique Lhuiller gown and jewels from William Noble, the mag says. Pete wore something, but anyone reading this doesn't care.

And who performed the ceremony? Why, papa Joe did, of course, serving as the officiant in a non-denominational affair. Sister Jessica, desperate to make everything looked a-okay, was maid of honor while Tony Romo stuck around to be her date.

Gossip rags (including The Juice*) have said the pair have broken it off, but Us magazine said Friday Joe begged the Dallas Cowboys quarterback to serve as an escort to keep the facade of normalcy as strong and as fake as ever. The glossy also said the relationship was long gone and hard to find at this point, with Romo giving Jess the heave-ho.

"This Jen (Aniston) and John Mayer thing is eating her up, and she just can't handle it — and Tony has basically had enough," a friend of Jessica's said. "She's too much to handle."

But back to the relationship that is working: While folks like Nicole Richie, Donald Faison and CaCee Cobb were on the guest list, we can't help but think the most delightful guest was the ring bearer -- Wentz's English bulldog, Hemingway. That's the photograph we're waiting to see.
