Ashlee Simpson-Wentz is off 'Melrose Place'

Ashleesimpsonwentz Color us not shocked at all that Ashlee Simpson-Wentz's run on Melrose Place is scheduled to come to an end. What is surprising is that it's not because of her acting.

Executive producer Todd Slavkin told Entertainment Weekly that Ashlee's role was always to serve as part of the show's "Who Killed Sydney?" plotline, and that run was slated to end by episode 12. So expect to see Ashlee and costar Colin Egglesfield disappear come January.

"They’re total professionals and they took it like professionals," Slavkin said. "When you go into a show you never know what’s going to evolve and what the possibilities are. But because they knew ahead of time (that leaving was a possibility), it wasn’t a complete shock."

It seems Ashlee bought the line that it wasn't because she was no good on screen.

"Having the chance to play Violet on Melrose Place has been a thrill," she told Us. "Although I always knew her story would come to a final, insanely unpredictable end, playing a creepy, unstable character was something I always wanted to do, so I jumped at the chance. Thanks to the CW and the entire cast and crew of Melrose Place for allowing me this opportunity!"

Of course, given the subpar ratings of the show, it sounds like not too many of you care either way. Maybe Heather Locklear will change that.
