Avril uses more than too much mascara

Tbdavril070907 Avril Lavigne, who didn’t even know how to pronounce musical god David Bowie’s name, sure knows how to steal other people’s songs. At least, that what songwriters Tommy Dunbar and James Gangwer claim.

TMZ reports the pair filed a suit in California saying Lavigne’s single Girlfriend bites off their 1979 song I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, which was performed by the Rubinoos (they who sang the Revenge of the Nerds theme song). Even longtime music critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote on that the song was “a total lift,” TMZ says.

The site also says Lavigne’s manager disputes the claim, hiring a musicologist to debunk the comparison. We don’t blame Avril, though; Everyone knows she just wails over whatever her producers cook up for her.
