Awww, Roman Polanski was denied bail
Switzerland's top criminal court on Tuesday rejected Roman Polanski's request to be released from prison on bail, the AP reports. Could it possibly be because of his penchant for jumping bail, moving to France and hiding out for 31 years? Could be.
"The appellant has already once in 1978 eluded American criminal proceedings by traveling to Europe," the Federal Criminal Court said in its 17-page verdict. "As a result, the motivation to flee is high."
Polanski asked for bail, house arrest and electronic monitoring, but it seems the tribunal still thought he was simply trying to avoid extradition to the United States on charges that he raped a 13-year-old girl. He has 10 days to appeal the decision, which his lawyer says Roman will likely do. How many chances does this guy get? If Joe Public was accused of such a heinous crime, he'd probably be stretched out on the rack faster than you can say due process.
